Our mission is to give each child a chance to express themselves through the widely underestimated power of writing.
More specifically, the purpose of this nonprofit organization is to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health in India. Every child deserves to be heard and have access to tools to help cope with mental illness. That is exactly what this non-profit strives to do by using the tool of writing to help students feel less alone in their mental health struggles. Writing is something tangible that allows a catharsis of emotions regarding the students’ own struggles or being able to support someone they are close to in their battle. The non-profit aims to target the Godhavi primary school in India. The kids who attend this school are from the Gujarat region in India.
The kids attending this school come from families with a lower socioeconomic status. There is widespread data claiming that being of a lower socioeconomic status is directly associated with greater risk of mental illness due to the stress that can accompany a lower quality of living. Therefore, our nonprofit was committed to the goal of trying to reduce the risk of mental health onset by encouraging students to be more open with this commonly stigmatized topic. As all of the members of the board of this non-profit organization are Crisis textline counselors, we are all trained individuals who can offer proper coping skills as well as build trust and rapport with students and make them feel heard and safe. We plan to do these workshops virtually through recorded videos that lead the students through an interactive writing experience.
